It’s a new year and so, a new try at having a Weird Giraffe Games blog! Maybe this time I can keep up with having a monthly update. I can only try and see what happens!
Conventions
Pax Unplugged definitely feels like it was more than just a few weeks ago, but it wasn’t! I had a great time at the convention, we had a booth, and I was in a panel at the last minute! Pax Unplugged is in Philadelphia and this is the second time I’ve been able to fly in, which is definitely better than driving for 13+ hours.
Justin, Lucy, and Jess held down the booth and they’ve been doing fantastically! It’s so great to have a booth crew that can handle things so I can go and actually enjoy the convention!
Not strictly a convention, but something close-ish; I co-hosted a design retreat in Maine! It was immediately after Pax Unplugged and it was a great way to make a ton of game design and development progress right after all the convention madness.
Game Progress
Post Kickstarter:
- Wicked & Wise: This continued to be fulfilled in the US and there’s only a few more games to go out! I believe it’s mainly the preorders and surveys that were filled in after fulfillment started that are waiting and there’s only a few more at that! EU fulfillment is set to start any day now, as well!
- Gift of Tulips: The majority of Gift of Tulips fulfilled months ago… but the EU shipment has seen delay after delay. The final part of this fulfillment should be starting any day now and I’m SO EXCITED for this to be done.
- Way Too Many Cats: Files have all been submitted, now I’m just waiting to see what manufacturing says, then the wait for the proof copy!
- Explosion in the Laboratory: I unexpectedly had all the art redone and things are looking fantastic! The very last of the art should be done this week, then the files can be submitted! The Fire in the Library reprint and the 2023 promo pack is going along with this and they need just a few final touches before being submit to manufacturing, as well! This is the fastest that I’ll have submit files after a crowdfunding campaign, but that does make sense, as Explosion is fairly small, though it is three products worth of files.
Pre Kickstarter
- Dreams of Yesterday is getting nearly ready for crowdfunding! I have the reviewer copies ordered, I need to reach out to see where they should be sent, then we can get going on the Crowdfunding page. There’s even a press release out about this! Press releases are a new thing that I hope to continue, so that everyone can get more information in one place for all the upcoming things!
- Tumble Tow, Tumble Town Expansion, and Tumble Town Reprint is the next crowdfunding group on the horizon! These are still a ways out, but they’re all in playtesting now so that in a few months, everything should be super ready to crowdfund!
In Progress
- Fire in the Library Card Game: I feel like this has been on the in progress list for years! For whatever reason, I choose to move up other projects, but this should finally get it’s time to shine, hopefully this year.
- Gift of Tulips Expansion: I had this pretty down and ready to go to crowdfunding… then I had some ideas and the expansion grew! The design retreat really helped with this, as it’s hard not to design a lot when there’s so much playtesting and progress happening.
General WGG
Not everything is about games! So much is, but there’s also other news to be had!
- Jamie started in December after talking to us at Pax U and I’m so excited to see how she fits in with the team.
- Chelsea started a WGG TikTok! It’s like we’re living in the present, as everyone else seemed to have been on tiktok for awhile. But better late than never, right?
- Quirky Bird Games started a patreon! In 2022, I placed a restriction on myself to not design new games and to focus on getting things done. My design brain couldn’t handle that and instead I started designing RPGs, which helped spawn Quirky Bird Games!
